Rea Valley Group is one of around 500 member groups of the Riding for the Disabled Association.  The Group, which is based at Berriewood Farm, has been running for over 25 years.

RDA groups offer people with disabilities the opportunity to benefit their health and well-being through riding.  In addition to improving mobility and co-ordination, riding encourages confidence and self-worth as well as being fun for both riders and volunteers.

Rea Valley group runs three sessions a week during school terms.  All sessions are lead by a qualified instructor, supported by trained volunteer helpers.  The group caters for a wide variety of riders of differing ages and abilities; a hoist is available to assist wheelchair users in mounting and dismounting. 

The group undertakes various fundraising activities throughout the year and this, together with donations, ensures that costs to the riders are kept to a minimum. 

Rea Valley’s volunteer helpers are essential to the group’s continued operation.  They fulfil a range of roles – helping the riders to mount and dismount, leading the horses and ponies or walking alongside the riders to ensure safety, instil confidence and provide encouragement. 

We are always looking for volunteer helpers.  No prior experience is required as training is provided, but common sense and a pair of stout shoes or boots are recommended.  All volunteers must be checked with the Criminal Records Bureau.

AGM

The AGM will be held in the RDA cabin on Thursday May 15^th and there will be Cheese & Wine after the meeting.
